I Buy and Sell Boy Scout Memorabilia

DO YOU HAVE VINTAGE BOY SCOUT MEMORABILIA TO SELL?

I am located in Charlotte, NC where I lease a 2,000 square foot warehouse to run my business from. As a Boy Scout memorabilia dealer I have been buying and selling Boy Scout patch collections since I got very serious on eBay in 2004. That was the year I started doing consignment and discovered that I could take my fun hobby and turn it into a business.

Yes! Your Boy Scout memorabilia might be worth some money. I routinely entertain offers to purchase collections from estates, retired Scouters and people looking to get out of the hobby. Many times the people who reach out to me have been carrying a box of Scout stuff from their childhood around through multiple moves over the years. They have come to the point where nobody in their immediate family is really interested in Scouting. So they reach out to me because they really want to put these items in the hands of a collector who would appreciate them. I will appraise the value of your Boy Scout collection and make you a fair offer to buy it. I have paid as little as $25 for a box of stuff and as much as $15,000 for a lifetime collection that filled an entire basement. Many of the collections I buy are mailed to me in a box which makes it easy to talk to people no matter where they are located. If you truly have an estate collection I’ve even flown out on a plane (3 times!) and rented a van or Uhaul to bring it back down south. I am interested in all manner of Scouting items!

When I am dealing with vintage Boy Scout collections I always like to get the story. I have been a Scouter my entire life since joining Cub Scouts at age 8. So I want to hear a little about the story that goes with the collection as I feel like that common experience in Scouting is what ties us together.

At heart I am a collector. The only reason I got into reselling Scouting memorabilia is because I needed to find a way to pay for all the patches I wanted for my collection. So now what I frequently do is pick items from each purchase to put in my permanent Scouting display that I can take to events. I have displayed at Eagle Scout ceremonies, Order of the Arrow lodge banquets, Scout expos and more over the years. I don’t play golf, I am not an NFL sports junkie, and I don’t really have any other hobbies other than collecting Scouting memorabilia and serving as a volunteer in my kid’s units and as a Summer Camp Director.

One of the things I really enjoy doing is filming unboxing videos when I get a collection in large or small. These videos capture the magic like Christmas morning when I see what’s inside the box. I also use this opportunity to share some of the history and story behind the memorabilia. Sometimes I have no idea what is in the box and it’s a complete surprise as I pull things out. There are over 2-dozen of these unboxing videos on my YouTube channel.

I was interviewed by one of my coaches about my online newsletter and my business. Martin Brossman taught me a lot about social media and helped fuel my dreams of moving from being a public school teacher of 14 years to making my side hustle a full time business.
